Follow the tips below according to the web browser you are currently using. This will ensure a safe browsing experience.
Google Chrome
Deleting History
Type in chrome://settings/clearBrowserData on the search bar to go to dialog. Or follow these steps manually:
- Click on History on the top lefthand corner above the browser.
- At the bottom, click on Show Full History.
- Click on Clear Browsing data… and then from there manually delete the browsing data you want to get rid of.
Browsing Privately
Open up an incognito browser. This browser allows you to browse any website safely and your history will not be saved.
To open up an incognito browser, click on File > New Incognito Window
Alternatively, go to the top-right corner of your current browser window, select the Menu button (three lines icon) or for mobile, More (the three dots icon). Select New Incognito Window (computer) or New Incognito tab (mobile) and then a private window will open up.
Safari (Desktop & Mobile)
Deleting History
Pull down the Safari menu and choose Clear History and Website Data. Choose how much history you want to clear and then click Clear History.
Mobile: Tap the Bookmarks button in the toolbar and select the Bookmarks icon in the upper left corner. Tap the History menu and then tap Clear, then select how much history you’d like to clear.
Browsing Privately
To open up a private browser, go to File > New Private Window.
The quickest way on an OS X is to use the keyboard shortcut. Hold down Command + Shift + N to open a new window with private browsing enabled.
Mobile: Tap the Pages button which is the two squares icon on the right hand side of the plus button, and tap Private.
Opera
Deleting History
To clear history on Opera, go to Opera > Preferences. Click on the Privacy & Securitytab on the left sidebar. Under Privacy, click the Clear Browsing Data Button.
From the dialog, you can check-select what you want to delete and how far back in time you would like to delete history from.
Browsing Privately
Private browsers exist on Opera versions 15 and onwards. You can open up a private browser window by going to File > New Private Window.
You can also use the keyboard shortcut by holding down Command + Shift + N.
Mozilla Firefox
Deleting History
Click on the menu button (the icon with the three lines), choose History, and then click Clear Recent History…
Select how much history you want to clear by clicking the drop-down menu next to Time range to clear.
Next, click on the dropdown arrow next to Details to select the information you want to be deleted. Finally hit Clear Now.
Browsing Privately
To browse privately so that your history is not saved, click the menu button (the icon with the three lines) and then click New Private Window.
You can also hold down the Ctrl key and click on any link to send that to a new private window.
Browsing privately on Firefox prevents these things from being saved: visited pages, form and search bar entries, passwords, download list entries, cookies, cached web content and offline web content and user data.
Internet Explorer
Deleting History
Follow these steps to delete your history & cache:
- IE 8: From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.
IE 9: On the upper right corner, click the small gear icon and choose Internet Options. - On the General Tab under Browsing history, click on Delete.
- Make sure to un-check the Preserve Favorites website data box.
- Check the Temporary Internet files, Cookies and History boxes.
- Click Delete. When finished, click OK to return to your IE window.
Browsing Privately
To open an InPrivate browsing window, click on Settings > Safety > InPrivate Browsing. Alternatively, right-click on the IE taskbar icon and select Start In Private Browsing.
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + P to launch an InPrivate browser.
Dolphin Browser (Android)
Deleting History
On the main screen of the browser, swipe the left edge of the screen inward. This should bring out the Bookmarks and History sidebar.
Tap on History which is located at the top of the sidebar. Tap on the gear icon. Then tap on the delete icon, which is the trash can icon. Alternatively, you can tap on the trash can icon the right of a history entry to delete a specific entry.
Browsing Privately
Pull up the Settings Menu. On the latest version of Dolphin, you can drag the dolphin icon to the right and releasing on the Menu button (the icon with three lines).
From there, go to Privacy & Personal Data and then turn on Private Mode.
