About One Billion Rising
One in three women on the planet is raped or beaten in her lifetime. That is ONE BILLION WOMEN violated. One billion daughters, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, lovers, and friends. On the 14th February 2013, V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, we invited ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. ONE BILLION RISING moved the earth, and activated women and men to dance across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers and our solidarity across borders. In 2014, we held the second annual One Billion Rising for Justice rally. Statistics state that only 1 in 100 perpetrators of sexual assault will ever spend a day in jail. On February 13th, 2015 we began a REVOLUTION to demand justice for all survivors! This year on February 12th, 2016 we will be ESCALATING the REVOLUTION by making sure to Listen. Act. Rise. Join V-Day and ONE BILLION RISING today and SAY NO to interpersonal violence.
About V-Day
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions, such as The Vagina Monologues. In 2012, over 5,800 V-Day benefit events took place in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls. V-Day’s newest campaign, ONE BILLION RISING, began on the 14th of February in 2013 with a global action worldwide and has continued every year since then.
