Denim Day is a worldwide initiative to prevent sexual violence and to enforce the message “Consent has NOTHING to do with what I wear”. This mission began in 1997 when the Italian Supreme Court dismissed a sexual assault case because the judge argued, “the victim’s jeans were so tight, she had to help remove them, thereby consenting to sex.” The women of the Italian Parliament took it upon themselves to attend their ensuing sessions wearing denim in order to show solidarity. Everyone in the Rutgers community is invited to wear jeans and a  Denim Day button (provided on Denim Day at our tables) to spread this message and support survivors of sexual assault.
